Can anyone be hypnotized?

Yes, anyone of at least average intelligence can be hypnotized. And although it’s easy to become hypnotized, it does take effort on the part of the volunteer or subject. Generally, they have to want to be hypnotized and be willing to follow your suggestions. If they fight it, (which is easy to do), are distracted or are uncomfortable with the hypnotist, chances are they won’t go into hypnosis. The truth is, everyone goes into hypnosis at least twice a day. Once is right before you wake up and the other is right before you fall asleep. At those times, your brainwaves change from the beta brain wave level to the alpha brain wave level and vice versa.

What exactly is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is an altered state of focused awareness where your subconscious mind becomes very suggestible. Your conscious mind, which is the filter or critical thinking part of your brain, is bypassed. During a stage hypnosis show, for instance, the volunteers will generally lose their inhibitions because their filter has been removed and they are now “thinking” with their subconscious mind. As long as a suggestion is not against the subject’s ingrained morals or values, they will accept the suggestion and act on it.

Is hypnosis dangerous?

Hypnosis is completely natural and absolutely safe. If you would like to test that theory, please visit an emergency room and ask how many people they’ve checked in due to hypnosis.

Can you get stuck in hypnosis?

No! This is one of the most common misconceptions of hypnosis. Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state that you enter into many times a day and come out of all by yourself. If you were ever hypnotized in a stage show and the hypnotist keeled over, (morbid example), you would just wake up on your own and leave the stage. While leaving the stage, please step over the hypnotist and call the paramedics.

What does it feel like to be hypnotized?

It usually feels very relaxing, although it feels differently for everyone. Some report a feeling of lightness, others heaviness while others report feeling as though they are “in the zone.” In all cases, hypnosis is a wonderful feeling.

Are you really a doctor?

No, but I suggest you see yours regularly. I've noticed you keep growing sleepier... and sleepier... and sleepier...
